What has happened to the recording industry is it has slowly been infiltrated by people who lack respect for our culture and its music. They control something which they know nothing about. What’s worse is they have demoralized it and practically closed it off to the true artist which has left the door open for rampant, blatant nepotism. This is what I call threatening. The true artists are the ones walking the walk and, “singing the talk“. They pay the price and suddenly find all their efforts don’t count anymore because a machine (the music industry) with a strong bias has replaced them. They are saying to artists all over the world that they are not allowed. The music industry is now a private party of friends and family. They are saying for every artist that ever made an impression, "We have a template– a "music recipe book". We don't need artists anymore".
My opinions have built up over the years by observing each situation that comes my way and asking myself, what’s the right thing to do? Often after I have already done the wrong thing. My life experience has taken me down many rough roads but by making it through those rough times it has made me stronger, making the message of my art stronger. To hopefully reach others by music with the power of real stories and truth in their messages. Truth can be defined in many different ways depending on how open or closed minded a person is. But even closed minded people know deep down what is right, it’s just that they have learned to ignore it– to interpret something to suit themselves. People today pretty much interpret things to suit their agenda or ideology. For a society living in a fairly futuristic age I would say we’re failing miserably.
When this kind of behavior is allowed to grow within the minds of our youth you get just what we have today– a society of people who think that wealth and material goods are what make a person, and any means to get them are justified. And while everyone is busy getting rich or trying to, the world falls apart. Being wealthy isn’t a bad thing, it's just that it's interpretation is warped. Most people will demoralize themselves for money but only to waste it and live way beyond a reasonable lifestyle. When I was growing up, I was told that I could achieve anything that I put my mind to and I did. But what I didn't realize is that it would be a long frustrating road, much more than I thought and more than anyone had ever expressed to me. The road can be quite rough but even more so if you don’t watch it. People who you get involved with may not see your vision and wont or can't deliver. Most encounters or business ventures end up being an outright con. One never finds this out until after the fact. Instead of the yellow brick road they thought they were on, they're on the highway to hell with Dorothy the lunatic, the stupid Scarecrow, the conniving Tinman and the hungry Lion. This is how I see our society. You can hardly get away from it. If we are to plan for our future, then we need to start by dragging our society’s standards out of the gutter and start facing the truth. Rome was the modern world of the ancients. They thought that they were the future and as soon as they lost their way, they crumbled. It took hundreds of years but they crumbled. So who are we to think that we are the future and that the same thing couldn't happen to us ? This is ignorance and should not be tolerated any longer. My message is to caution those people who choose to live in denial, and that they make it harder for all the honest people in the world. All living things deserve respect and the only way we are to survive is to learn from our mistakes and correct them. |
